Barium Enema & IVP

Buy one X-Prep Kit #2 at the drug store - discard instruction to kit and follow these:

DAY BEFORE EXAM:

8:00 am Eat a light, fat-free breakfast. (No bacon or butter, no milk in coffee or on cereal.)
10:00 am &
11:00 am
Drink 8 – ounces of clear liquid (water, sugar-free soda, non-pulpy & unsweetened juice, black coffee, or tea without sugar or milk). Do not drink milk or cream.
Noon Liquid lunch consisting of clear soup, or tea without sugar or milk. Do not drink milk or cream.
1:00 pm Fill a pint container with 8 fluid ounces (1cup) of water, slowly add the contents of Citralax Granules packet while stirring water. As soon as the granules have dissolved, drink the entire contents.
5:00 pm Liquid dinner consisting of clear soup, plain Jello, and liquid (non-pulpy unsweetened juice, sugar-free soda, black coffee, or tea without sugar or milk). Do not drink milk or cream.
6:00 pm Drink entire contents (2 – ½ ounces) of one bottle of X-Prep Liquid. Follow with 2 – ½ ounces of water form the same bottle, plus 8 ounces of clear liquid, as described above.

10:00 pm
Drink 8 ounces of clear liquid (water, sugar-free soda, non-pulpy unsweetened juice, black coffee, tea without sugar or milk). Do not . drink milk or cream.


DAY OF EXAM:

6:30 am Use Rectolax Suppository. Remove foil wrap from suppository. Lie on left side. Insert suppository as high as possible in rectum, making sure it touches wall of rectum. Wait 15 minutes before evacuating, even if urge is strong. Have liquid breakfast the morning of the exam if being prepped for a BE. Have nothing past midnight if being prepped for an IVP.
